North Carlisle Medical Centre

This project was delivered over a period of 10 months and takes Stanwix Medical Practice out of terrace house environment and into a bright, airy, colourful setting with room for expansion and flexibility to increase their service provision. They share the building with Cumbria Partnership Foundation Trust who provide a range of community services including Physiotherapy, Mental Health and Community Nursing services.

What We Did

We navigated a highly complex land acquisition on a former school site, dealing with historic covenants and an underground water culvert, which we ultimately built the car park over. Working closely with Carlisle County Council and Cumbria CCG, we retained the flexibility to find the best solutions for our stakeholders at every stage. When a late tenant withdrawal threatened the scheme, we resolved it without reducing any clinical space, keeping the project on track throughout.

The Outcome

The £2.8 million development was delivered in just 10 months, transforming the practice's working environment from an outdated terraced property into a bright, spacious and flexible facility with genuine room to grow. The centre now operates alongside Cumbria Partnership Foundation Trust, which provides physiotherapy, mental health and community nursing services from the same building. The project is a clear demonstration of how independent, relationship-driven development can overcome significant technical and contractual hurdles to deliver exactly what a community needs.
